Art Work Display Options
Ways to display art work Part 1 of 2
Your favorite four-legged friend’s story deserves to be told in a portrait session but more importantly it needs to be shown in art work in your home. Otherwise, what is the use of going through the process of having portraits taken if the images are left in a drawer or on your computer where they are not seen? Beautiful portraits should be printed and enjoyed daily!
When talking with my clients about art work, there is one comment I hear a lot, “I am unsure how or where to display art work.” Not knowing how to display it is a commonality and in this two-part blog series, I will give you ideas of how to display your beautiful art of your furry friend. In the first blog, wall art will be the focus and the second blog will cover the option if your wall space is limited.
There are many options for displaying wall art in your home. I will cover four ways that might help get your mind saying “Wow! That is cool! I could do that!”
#1 A statement piece
This is a large piece of art that stands out in size, color, or subject and positioned in a noticeable location in the home. This can be over the fireplace mantle or sofa in the living room or a prominent wall in the dining room. Ensure that the art work fills 2/3 of the width of the furniture to achieve a cohesive visual.
#2 Small grouping
A small grouping of wall art can be very impactful also. Choosing a set of three images for wall art from your favorite images is a fun way of displaying art.
#3 Gallery wall
A gallery wall is a collection of several pieces of wall art. When creating a gallery wall be sure to have consistent spacing between the art – 3” to 4” is a good spacing. Having a consistent spacing achieves a cohesive feel and reads as one piece of art; even if you have different sizes, frames, and shapes.
#4 Unexpected Places
We have already covered the living room and dining room but how about other spaces in your home. The kitchen, bedroom, and hallway are great spaces to display your favorite portraits. How about the laundry room or mud room? Imagine coming home and seeing a portrait above the washer and dryer of your dog running through a mud puddle. The entryway is a special place as well, greeting friends and family with a cute portrait of your horse or dog would bring a smile to their face instantly.
A few other areas that are not in your home but are just as important to mention are the office, barn, and tack room. What a great way to spruce up a room than with your own portraits. You may be scratching your head about the barn and tack room idea - thinking the moist air will ruin the art. Rest assured, there are a couple of different wall art mediums that can handle those conditions. We can discuss those during your session.
These are some great ways to display your favorite image(s), in wall art, from your portrait session. There are so many configurations to explore and is fun to create the perfect setting for your space.
I hope this blog got your thoughts flowing on how to enjoy your favorite images on your walls. The next blog will be part two. It will cover other art work options if you don't have the wall space.
Until next time, take care,
